Snipe did not work either... Fri Feb 01, 2013 09:12 PM Quote

Hello :)

Its a while since I used it last time. This time, my snipe was lower than the final highes bid. Anyway, I would have expected to get a e-Mail from eBay, saying, that my bid was not winning (I got these back in those times I used bid-o-matic, that I stopped using since I discovered byibidder)

Well, this time, it was about item 181070554867, my ID is urs_photograph

Anyway, I have another snipe running right now, and I want to make sure it will really do the bid. So that's why I ask you the question. The status says:
My Status: Current bid is higher than your snipe

Anyway, I think it refers to the previous snipe I lost.

How can I see the status for the current snipe, to be sure, everything is OK?

Thanks indeed for your help and for your great tool! Urs

Why do you say your snipe did not work if you know it was too low? You can't win with lower bid, so there is no way it will work. Even BOM will not work if your snipe is too low.

eBay did not send you email notification because your bid was not accepted due to being too low.

You don't see the status because the auction is not ended yet. You'll see the status if you won or lost after auction is ended only.

Excuse me for asking, I think I did not explain the question well, because you part from the idea, that I don't realize that I will not win an auction with a lower bid.

With the question wether it was "not working", I was not asking, why I did not win the auction. As you might suppose, I am aware of the fact, that a low bid will not win the auction.

The question was another one - and I guess I explained it in a more clear word in the other thread, from where you took my question away because I was confusing the users as it appears. Sorry for that.

Here it goes again: Does or doesn't myibidder send a bid to ebay, even if the current highes bid is already higher than the proposed "snipe"?

When I referred to bid-o-matic it was, because when I used to use that tool, it did so: Even when the highest bid was already higher, it would still send my lower snipe. I don't know how it did that, but I know it did, because I used to get a mail from e-bay, saying that I did not win - so my bid had obviously been sent. Maybe this was only true in older versions, as I don't use it anymore.

So I was only bothering, whether my current snipe would work, as I did not get the e-bay-feed-back I did expext in the last auction.

However, if you consider, this is a thumb question, I ask you not to answer.

And thanks anyway for the really nice tool and service!

Myibidder always sends your bid to eBay.
The thing is that eBay will not accept your bid if the current bid is already higher, and so you will not get any emails from eBay about that.

That was because your bid was still higher than the current bid at the moment of sniping.
Your snipe was accepted and your got an email from eBay saying that you lost because for one of the following reasons:
1. Someone else bid higher after your snipe (probably another sniper).
2. Someone else bid much higher long before auction ended -- meaning the current bid was lower than your snipe, but someone else's maximum was higher.

In other words:
The main point is that "current bid" and "maximum bid" are not always the same.
The "current bid" is what you see on the listing. The "maximum bid" is hidden maximum amount placed by the highest bidder which you can't see (unless it equals to "current bid").
If your snipe is higher than "current bid", it's accepted by eBay. If your snipe is also lower than "maximum bid", you also get an email from eBay that you lost.

I hope I did not confuse you even more.
Please let me know if something still not clear.

Thanks, I got it, not confusing at all. Anyway, I was pretty sure it happened to be lower bids that still got taken into account by eBay, but I might be wrong, there is no doupt that you know best how the bay works.

For the purpouse of the question, I'm surely all right, I know that it would work if my bid was the highest, and that's the only point that is important. Cheers!
