My snipe was placed in plenty of time (via the web), and was for an amount a fair bit above what the item sold for. The status shows "My Status:You are the current high bidder" but looking directly on ebay shows I didn't win the item.

What happened and how can I avoid it? Was it just the snipe being too late?

scratch that - ebay's now changed to show me as having won... must have been a problem at ebay's end!

Please note that you have to be logged in to eBay to see the winning status. I suspect you were not logged in at that moment so that's why you did not see it.
