1 cent off - bid not submitted even though higher than winner. Tue Apr 13, 2010 05:37 PM Quote

I recently made a bid using Myibay. I would have been the highest bid, but my bid was not submitted because the incremental amount changed. This is the second time this has happened with myibay.

Final price: 14.55
Snipe: 15.04
Status from eBay:
Could not win (3): Enter US $15.05 or more

For example, the winning bid was $14.55. My bid was 15.04. When I started bids were in 50 cent increments and If my bid was 15.05, I might have won. If I did it manually, I could have adjusted my bid, but with the sniper software I was committed to the amount entered. Not sure if this is a common problem, but would appreciate comments or suggestions.

The lowest bid for eBay to be accepted is $15.05. Your snipe was lower so that's why you did not win.

If you say that you could have adjusted the bid, then this is what you have to use when setting a snipe from the beginning.
I always think of it this way: am I willing to add one or two increments over my maximum? If I answer "yes", then I add it. If not, then I let it go when someone bid higher.

You should always put your absolute maximum when you snipe, you won't have another chance to rethink.

The bid increment is dynamic and depends on the current bid. Here is a link with more information:

Thank you for your replay. Good advise. I have googled this topic and can see no solutions yet for this issue. My thought was that myibay could be set up a predefined incremental amount. How much more could be bidded to meet the incremental bid issure. For example, you could predefine 10 cents or depending range increment amount. It would have been great for the bid i missed, as I was off by only a penny to meet the incremental bid amount. Has anyone at Myibay considered this?

System can't decide for you what's your absolute maximum, you have to do it.

If your maximum is 15.04, but you are willing to pay up to 15.14, then you should use 15.14 instead of 15.04. There is no reason to complicate things if you just put your real maximum.
If it goes higher by 1 cents, you don't want this item. If you do, think about a different maximum.
Maybe you don't want to pay $15.05 because it becomes too expensive so I can't know unless you set your maximum higher.

Hi- Thanx again. The point I was trying to make was the winning bid was $14.55 but I was willing to pay 15.04, which I based on the incremental amount that was present 30 minutes prior to setting the snip. The incremental amount changed to an even number, so I was off by a penny. If the myiebay software was programed to account for these odd price differences, it would work better, as in theory, it could be only up to a nine cent differce in change in incremental amounts durning the last minutes.

For esample:
10.50 bid
11.00 next bid amount
11.51 bid
12.01 next bid amount
12.08 bid
12.58 next bid amount
12.57 + .09 snip sent with adjustable increment amount.
12.58 myiebay snipper wins again - yaaaha!

Just a thought. It could be done, if a Company like myibay wanted to have the best smarter sniper software and not be like everyone elses software that does the same old thing.

The point is not the current bid, the point is that the next bid became 15.05, but you are willing to pay up to 15.04 only so that was higher than your budget.
If your budget is higher than 15.04, please use your absolute maximum when setting a snipe.

You decide your maximum. Myibay's job is to bid up to it so you don't have to pay anything extra.

You have to decide what's your maximum, not the sniper. You have the full control -- use it.
