I am using the "WEB Version". I press the "update status" button, but NONE of the listed acctions show an update of the "current bid" information ???? The "Time remaining" seems to change, however. IF this is the wrong procedure, what is correct ??

Juint,
You can do a refresh by adding the same item again.
Please note that your snipe should not depend on the current bid and it's shown for information purposes only.

If I have ten items, I do not want to enter them again but I just want to press a button to get all the current prices.

Then you have to click "Snipe" on each and click "Refresh".
Refreshing item's information is a long process and if I'll let users refresh dozens items at once, they will ask why it takes so much time.
As I mentioned before, the current bid does not affect sniping.
